Talk title: CARMENES and stellar activity treatment
Abstract:
I present the CARMENES spectrograph, its survey for rocky planets around cool stars and its recent achievements. One of the main limitations of such surveys is given by the stellar contribution to the radial velocity measurements, which is commonly accounted for by sophisticated noise models such as the Gaussian Process regression. I explain the possible origins of the stellar jitter and introduce our STARSIM model, which is able to reproduce the commonly analyzed data sets of a rotating spotted star. I present my recent study, where I test and calibrate commonly used Gaussian Process Kernels using a variety of STARSIM spot maps, i.e. stellar activity models.
Bio:
After finishing my studies in Köln I went to the IAC in Tenerife to conduct my PhD thesis in the framework of the Marie Curie Research Training Network "CONSTELLATION" and by searching for Brown Dwarfs in young star-forming regions such as Taurus and Orion. From 2012 on, I am in working on Exoplanets in Barcelona with Ignasi Ribas, leading the HADES programme and participating strongly in the CARMENES consortium.
